Belgian Kuffar Lawmakers Approve a Bill on Banning ‘Full Islamic Veils’
Belgium- A high committee of Belgian kuffar lawmakers have voted on Wednesday (31/3/2010) to issue a bill on banning any kinds of full Islamic face veils.
Voted under anonymity, the bill will be imposed in all public space, including streets, public gardens, sport halls, and public service offices; and exception will be on festivals like carnival.
According to the bill, those who ignore will face a fine from 15 to 25 euros (20-34 dollars) and/or a jail sentence of up to seven days, unless the local police office allow Muslim women to wear the face veil.
The bill alone is to be ratified into legal law by voting that will be held on April 22nd, 2010.
If agreed, this will make Belgium the first country in Europe to ban burqa-like veils after French parliament failed to do the same upon consideration that the ban will only result in constitutional risk.
Responses to the ban varies but mostly oppose against the bill.
On Tuesday, France’s top administrative body ruled that there were no legal grounds for a complete ban on the wearing of Islamic full face veil in public.
Isabelle Praile, vice president of the Muslim Executive of Belgium also responded to the bill negatively.
“Today it’s the full-face veil, tomorrow the veil, the day after it will be Sikh turbans and then perhaps it will be mini skirts,” she said.
The bill came to vote in the Belgian parliament after continuing controversy in the kingdom over the wearing of Islamic clothes in public places, even though Belgian parliament members often said the bill was taken upon security consideration.
A Muslim mathematics teacher at a municipal school has been challenged in legal court because she wears Islamic veil in the classroom.
At her protracted court battle, she has been given options whether to keep wearing the veil or be fired from her job at the school.
